Coimbatore : Demanding proactive steps to end the increasing man-animal conflict in the Thadagam area, the District cadres of Social Justice Party of India petitioned the District Collector to derive at a lasting solution to the ever-increasing problem without altering the habitat of the animals.

Holding placards, they stressed “Forests are the habitat of Elephants”. The cadres urged the Collector to end the illegal sand mining and mineral smuggling carried out by miscreants in the elephant corridors in Thadagam.

"After the recent capture and translocation of 'Vinayagan', a wild elephant from Thadagam to Mudumalai, efforts are on to capture 'Chinnathambi' another crop-raiding elephant in the Thadagam area. Instead of addressing the core problem which lead to the elephants invading farmlands, trans locating wild animals from their habitat is illogical. Illegal encroachments and deep craters formed due to sand mining has fragmented the elephants pathway", they pointed.
